Obi-Wan Kenobi Series: Terms Bestiary

Bestiary of Obi-Wan Kenobi Series – Creature, Beasts and Species from the Star Wars World

Dear readers,

The wait for the release of the Obi-Wan series is finally here, just in time for the rejoicing of us Star Wars fans! If you have watched Episode 1, you may have noticed the mention of a few exotic Star Wars themed creatures or beasts which we probably know nothing about. I’m here to help provide more information on these creatures because it adds a lot of context to the sentences in which the words were used in and because context is everything. Now lets get to it!

Spoiler Warning: The following contains very very minor spoilers for the show hence feel free to read ahead without the fear of being ‘spoilered’ completely

Episode 1 – Glor-ag, Jakobeast & Purrgil

1. Glor-ag

“It is like raising a Glor-ag”

Unfortunately there isn’t much information on what a Glor-ag looks like. All we know is that a person called Borun Call, an infamous Quarren slaver from the days of the Old Republic, was a skilled rider of the Glor-ag’s. Hence we can speculate that the Glor-ag is a creature which could be mounted and from the quote we can assume that it is a very stubborn creature as used by Breha Organa.

2. Jakobeast

“I’d rather be digested by a jakobeast”

Fortunately we have a lot more information on Jakobeasts.

Jakobeasts are domesticated animals which is capable of using the force to defend itself. They are found in the icy tundras on planets in the Outer Rim. They are raised for their meat, milk and fur.

It is interesting that Leia knew about the existence of Jakobeasts having not left her homeworld of Alderaan – she probably learned it from stories from some adventurer or book.

More information in Wookieepedia.

3. Purrgil

Purrgil are essentially whale-like creatures which lived in deep space and had the ability to fly through hyperspace and in fact inspired hyperspace technology. Purrgil were hunted down because they posed as obstacles to spaceships and travelers alike. Due to this they seem to be natural reference for prey as used by Bail Organa.

Conclusion

That’s all for episode 1, hopefully there will be more to explore in episode 2. May the Force Be With You!
