Triptych - Episode 4 Summary & Recap
Fire
The episode begins with a flashback. On the day Rebecca burnt Humberto’s car, Tamara also burned a building. Aleida could see all of this happening and suddenly, her house seemed to be on fire. Aleida ran out after the fire caught her Christmas tree and ran into Eugenio. She asked her husband to save her son, Alex. Eugenio tried to remind her that Alex is dead, but Aleida seemed frantic and wouldn’t listen.
Back to our original timeline, Dr. Bátiz eventually caved in and told Rebecca about Aleida. Aleida claimed that she’s able to feel what someone who looks like her is experiencing, and so Dr. Bátiz diagnosed her with schizoid. Her illness allowed her to have multiple personalities. Rebecca asked if Aleida ever told the doctor about her and Tamara, but Dr. Bátiz said she hasn’t heard anything. The doctor even revealed that Aleida was admitted to the clinic after she hallucinated that her house was on fire- which ties back to the flashback we saw earlier.
Meanwhile, Eugenio recruited Tamara to pretend to be Aleida for 1 million dollars. Tamara would have to sign any company documents as Aleida, and both Eugenio and Aleida would pretend to divorce soon after.
Backstory
By that night, Humberto managed to gather some information about Aleida and Eugenio. Apparently, Aleida’s father and Eugenio’s father were co-founders of the Humanis Vita hospitals. Aleida’s father then passed and the company went to Eugenio’s father. Although Eugenio’s father appointed both Eugenio and Aleida into his company, Aleida held her own and Eugenio’s father eventually named Aleida the chairperson before he died. Aleida stepped down and set up her own successful company.
Now, Humberto and Rebecca believed that Eugenio had a hand in killing Aleida. When Rebecca could not find Tamara the enxt morning, she alerted Humberto and both went to Olympia Mens’ Club to gather information on Tamara. Later on, they got hold of Aleida’s old speech that indicated that Aleida knew she was adopted. Rebecca theorized that Aleida’s adoption must be legal, and therefore would have the name of their birth mother.
Pretense
Meanwhile, Tamara spent the day with Eugenio learning how to pretend to be Aleida. She was taught how to talk and eat like Aleida. Eugenio also called a personal hairstylist to give Tamara Aleida’s hairstyle. At night, Tamara noticed Eugenio taking some form of medication. Then when Eugenio caught Tamara snooping around, he eventually had sex with her and called her “Aleida”.
The next morning, Rebecca went to Eugenio’s office. She got Humberto to smuggle her in by staying in the car trunk. That way, people won’t notice her as Aleida. She then dressed up as a cleaner, infiltrated Eugenio’s office and planted a bug under Eugenio’s table. Just as she walked out, Tamara who was pretending to be Aleida arrived, and the two sisters noticed each other.
Additional Observations From Episode 4
- Aleida’s father died the same year as Rebecca’s father.
- Rebecca admitted to Dr. Bátiz that she had visions of Aleida and could feel and experience Aleida’s memory. In return, the doctor offered to help both Rebecca and Tamara, as she believed they may share some genetic mental illness.
