The Night Agent - Episode 3 Summary & Recap

Secret plan

The episode starts with a flashback from a year ago. After the metro bombing, Diane Farr approached Peter Sutherland for the job to pick up calls for Night Agents. As Peter’s father had a record of being a traitor, Diane proposed that reporting to her would mean charting his own career course, as the FBI would not trust him fully.

Back in our original timeline, Peter agreed to bring Rose into the White House. However, hearing that makes Rose panic as she did not trust anyone in the White House. The two of them then came up with a plan. Peter then called Diane directly using his phone and told her they will be coming it at 10am the next day. After that, the two spent the night in the woods, overwatching the cabin.

In the morning, Dale and Ellen showed up at the cabin looking for them, but Peter and Rose managed to escape. Rose then presented this as proof that Diane Farr was in on it, because she was the only one who could trace Peter’s location from his call last night.

Meanwhile, Diane was angry at the POTUS for withholding the information regarding the Campbells. Seeing that, President Travers (Kari Matchett) gave in and told Diane some information.

Busted

Now that they established that Diane Farr cannot be trusted, Peter and Rose now made another plan to get the drive decrypted. Peter went back to the White House with the drive but claimed that Rose ran away at the gas station. Diane Farr immediately asked her men to decrypt the contents of the drive.

At night, Peter asked to be on Night Agent call duty again. Rose then called the Night Agent line and Peter went to Diane, claiming that Rose wanted to speak to her. This was actually a ploy to get Diane distracted while Peter stole her access card to get to Diane’s computer. There, he plugged in a device that gave Rose remote access to download all the decrypted drive contents into Rose’s laptop.

The plan seemed to have worked at first, but Diane soon found out that Peter stole her access card. Peter fired back by claiming Diane sent two assassins over to kill them in the morning. Diane seemed shocked and immediately sent her phone to check for any spyware. Sure enough, her phone was bugged.

Diane explained that the President knew the Campbells for a long time and commissioned them to investigate the metro bombing two months ago. There were several members from the People’s Independent Front (PIF) who claimed that the party was behind it, but their leader, Omar Zadar denied involvement. The Campbells suspected that someone in the White House was the culprit.

With this, Peter now trusts Diane and brought her over to Rose’s place. Of course, Rose wasn’t welcoming at first, but Diane wanted to tell her what she knew about her aunt and uncle.

Maddie Redfield

Meanwhile, there is another storyline where a Secret Service agent, Agent Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) was in charge of protecting the daughter of the Vice President of the United States, Maddie Redfield (Sarah Desjardins). Arrington’s boss, Ben Almora has now assigned another agent named Erik Monks (D.B. Woodside) on the case. Erik Monks was shot while protecting the previous POTUS and was in addiction recovery. Now, they wanted to ease him into an easier job.

Arrington was not happy about this assignment because Erik’s style is very different from hers. Maddie is an emotional teenage girl, unlike a President of a country. When Maddie was at a bar, she was about to be attacked and Erik fumbled. Arrington had to step in and escort Maddie to safety. Arrington reported that incident to Ben, but Ben still insisted on putting Erik on the job.

Maddie, on the other hand, was getting very close to her art teacher at school. At the end of the episode, it was revealed that her art teacher was texting the person who bombed the metro a year ago. He had the rattlesnake tattoo on the side of his body.
